Allied Healthcare Skillnet, promoted by the IPU, has been set up
to design, develop and deliver learning events and programmes
relevant to the community pharmacy sector, with a particular
emphasis on Leadership/Management and specialist clinical
skills. The Autumn 2010 event programme has four themes: |

1.
Managing a Health Screening Service
– A Modular approach from
Ø
In response to the HSE’s recently established Quality and
Clinical Directorate, UCC School of Pharmacy, is offering this
academic year, four 5 credit Modules in asthma, diabetes,
mental health and coagulation. These can be, over a period
of time, accumulated towards either a Certificate (30 credits)
Diploma (60 credits) or Masters (90 credits) qualification in
Chronic Disease Therapy and Medicines Management.
Ø
These modules will be conducted through teleconferences,
assignments and practice log books
Ø
Modules can be completed at your own pace through distance
learning
Ø
Each Module normally costs €500, but through AHS will cost €250 |

2.
Pharmacy Practice Refresher Courses
Ø
Pharmacists returning to work/locums/ health professionals
dealing with HSE will particularly benefit from this event day
which addresses two major issues in the pharmacy:
o
Develop your expertise with the major dispensing systems
o
Develop your expertise in dealing with the HSE- optimise your
claims efficiency, manage your cash flow, manage your costs
Ø
Experts on the various dispensing systems and on handling
interactions and claims with HSE and local area offices will
deliver this new course- see dates below |

Health Screening Services in Community Pharmacy
Ø
Cicely Roche MPSI will deliver her popular Health Screening in
Community Pharmacy event days
Ø
Particularly for those who want to start a Health Screening
Service, but also for those who are already doing so, this event
day offers a wealth of information, but also allow participants
to practice the service- see dates below |

4.
Community Pharmacy
and Nursing Home Services
Ø
Professor Carmel Hughes, Queens University Belfast, is a
recognised authority on community Pharmacy nursing home
services. In this event day, Professor Hughes will draw on her
research findings to raise awareness of the critical care issues
as pertain between the Nursing home and the Pharmacy. A must for
anyone with pharmacy with a Nursing Home contract! |

Abbey
Physio
is a long-established multi-disciplinary training company, which
provides ongoing training services to the public and private healthcare
sectors to both acute- and community-based providers. They have
provided training to the H.S.E. and numerous nursing homes and have a
panel of highly qualified trainers from
Physiotherapy/Occupational Health and Safety/Nursing backgrounds.
Ace Management and Training
consists of a panel of highly qualified and experienced facilitators,
coaches and trainers.
All tutors have at least 5 years plus Nursing Home experience and have
a relevant postgraduate qualification such as gerontology.
Tutors also have experience of successfully delivering FETAC Level 5
Healthcare Support programmes previously.
Healthcare Informed
Prior to establishing Healthcare Informed, John Sweeney held the
position of Director of Research and Development with the Irish Health
Services
Accreditation Board. In this role he had overall responsibility for the
development of the Acute Care and Residential Care Accreditation
Standards.
This included the coordination of significant service user
consultation. Before this he was the director of the Irish Society for
Quality and Safety in Healthcare where he instigated the National
Patient Perception of Care Survey. He is an honorary lecturer of the
Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and sits on the Advisory Committee
of the European Forum for Quality in Healthcare.
John
Connelly
is
a practising Health and Safety Manager who has worked as a senior Safety
Professional for over 10 years in a variety of industries including
Manufacturing, Engineering, Utilities and the Healthcare sector. He is
a Chartered Member of The Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH)
and a full Member of the International Institute of Risk & Safety
Management (IIRSM). He holds a Masters Degree in Safety and Risk
Management.
Mary
Daly and Associates
specialise in Food Safety and Hygiene Training as well as Cleaning and
Customer Care training. Mary trained and lectured at the Military
College in the Curragh for five years. Mary Daly and Associates
has FETAC, FAS and Failte Ireland approval and is a licensed trainer on
behalf of the National Hygiene Partnership and the Environmental Health
Officers Association. Colm O Neill works as an associate with Mary Daly
and Associates, delivering the Cleaning and Infection Control Courses.
Colm has a Postgraduate Diploma in Health and Safety in the workplace –
specialising in healthcare hygiene and auditing- and has been delivering
cleaning and hygiene training to healthcare institutions for over
eight years.
Denis
Ryan
PhD,
BSc., Dip Prof Studies, Cert B.T., RPN, RGN, CAC was a lecturer in the
Department of Nursing & Midwifery, University of Limerick. His
professional background has been in nursing, addiction counselling,
management and practice development.
RCCN
have a panel of experienced trainers from Nursing Home and Nursing
backgrounds who have successfully delivered and currently deliver FETAC
Level 5 Healthcare Support programmes on our behalf. Instructors each
have Certificates in Training and Development from NUI Maynooth.
Note: All courses and fees are subject to
sufficient trainee numbers and funding available to Allied
Healthcare Skillnet. All places must be paid for one week prior to
training. Allied Healthcare Skillnet is a not for profit
organisation owned by members who avail of training. Any surplus funds
may be rebated to members after year end. Any cancelled courses will be
refunded in full. |
